F6F-5  Hellcat  1/72

This F6F-5 Hellcat was flown by Captain David Mc Campbell.  He is the Navy's all-time leading ace with thirty-four confirmed victories.  All of these were attained while flying the Hellcat as the Commanding Officer of Carrier Air Wing 15 on the USS Essex (CV-9).  This Academy model is in the final paint scheme of the Hellcat which was overall glossy sea blue (FS 15 042).
